TIME REBEL: My climate-justice cabaret!

Mar 14, 2025

The term ‘Time Rebel’ was coined by Australian-born social philosopher, Roman Krznaric and is someone who works towards intergenerational justice. Meaning every decision they make today considers how it’ll impact future generations – hundreds of years from now. It’s about rebelling against “business as using” by embracing long-term, multi-generational thinking – all to benefit our children’s children’s children.  This is in the context of big issues like climate change will desperately need us to embrace long-term thinking if we’re to craft a good life for all.

You’ll find strong similarities with Roman’s work and indigenous cultures around the world, which he references often. The key theme is that time is a cyclic concept that encompasses the past, present and future and that we are all inextricably linked across generations. That what we do today has been informed by the past and will be felt for generations to come. It encourages us (that’s you and me) to work hard now so we can ease the way for the next generations.

When I got the opportunity to work with the Ten Days On The Island festival to do “something” I knew it be around issues of climate change, people and place. Then, one day while I was running through the local bush, listening to some 80s pop music VERY LOUDLY, it hit me. This “something” has to be a musical or cabaret. Why? Because music and storytelling makes magic and it beings people together to form a type of community. And so TIME REBEL was birthed!

TIME REBEL is a live show exploring solution-based climate activism with music and joy. But it also gives the audience a unique insight into my personal life as someone who’s been working in this space for over two decades. It shows my struggles and  how I work with both the “dark and the light” towards a good life for all. Because while we can’t ignore the cold hard facts, we can choose how we respond to them. And that’s what this show is – a pragmatic and idealistic response to some tough truths.

It started out as an individual venture but quickly evolved into a community adventure. Because *together is always better*. Come with your friends and family (there’s only one swear word (sh#t) & only once).

In a time when the world is a little bit iffy, let this show be a balm for your heart and some fuel to get your fire roaring

CLICK HERE to come see the show and be party of something special! It’s showing on March 22nd, 27th and 29th across Lutruwita/Tasmania.

A blurry photo in the Theatre’s Royal cause I’m too excited to stand still for photoshoots!

And here are some of the testimonials from folks who came along to some of the shows – it was a time!!!
